Nelson Platform Bench

Designed by George Nelson for Herman Miller®

This 1946 design—part of George Nelson's first collection for Herman Miller—was a multitasker long before multitasking was common. It ably serves as a table, a base for his Basic Cabinet Series storage, or a seat. Features ebonized, finger-jointed wood legs.

Slats that Lasted

Nelson originally designed the Platform Bench for his New York office. The idea was that sitting on a slatted bench would discourage visitors from staying too long. Eight decades later, it's the bench that has stuck around. Today it's considered one of the true icons of mid-century design.
